Obituary

Broderick, H. Louise, of Peterborough, NH, formerly of Jamaica Plain, MA, January 6, 2016

Known to all who loved her as Lisa, she was born in Boston on September 1, 1939; the daughter of Henrietta Wells Kennard and Robert MP Kennard. She grew up in Newton Center, MA, attended the Chestnut Hill School, The Winsor School and graduated from Vassar College.

She began work at the NE Baptist Hospital and then joined the Medical Department at MIT where she developed an interest in working with students. In 1979 she joined the Department of International Student Services at Northeastern University working primarily with international students in work/study programs. Simultaneously she completed her Master’s Degree and Certificate of Advanced Studies in counseling and psychology at Northeastern. She was a caring and effective counselor and teacher for hundreds of students learning to make their way in the American school and work environment.

On September 12, 1964, she married her childhood friend, Brian T. Broderick. They shared a rich mix of love of life, engaging careers, dogs, Bermuda, Mt. Monadnock, Silver Lake, antique automobiles, their two nieces and nephew and mutual families until Mr. Broderick's death in 2001.

Ms. Broderick retired from Northeastern in 2003. Soon her life was greatly enriched by volunteer work with the Roxbury Presbyterian Church which she found to be a uniquely welcoming and sustaining community. Work with the Church became a profoundly meaningful way for her to be of service with the kindness and compassion that so defined her life and faith.

Ms. Broderick is survived by her sister Anne K Ryan and her husband, Richard, of Peterborough, NH; her brother, David D.F. Kennard and his partner, Julie Pakradooni of Harrisville, NH; her sister-in-law, Julia B. O’Brien of Roslindale, MA; nieces Catherine OB Bumpus and Margaret OB Dyson and nephew, Colin Kennard and their respective spouses and children. Her eldest brother, Robert M P Kennard Jr., died in 1957.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Roxbury Presbyterian Church, 328 Warren St., Roxbury, MA with a waiting period starting at 11:00 am, service at 11:45 followed by burial at St Joseph's Cemetery, West Roxbury, MA. Remembrances may be made in Ms Broderick's name to Roxbury Presbyterian Church or an animal shelter of your choice.
