Mr. Leo G. Castonguay, of Taunton, died Saturday, January 9 at his residence following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 61 years of Lucille L. (Denis) Castonguay. He was born 83 years ago in New Bedford, the son of the late Wilfred and Arzelia (Frechette) Castonguay. He was educated in New Bedford and had been a Taunton resident since 1957. Prior to his retirement, Leo had been employed as a truck driver for George Mann Chemical Co. in Providence, R.I. for several years. He previously owned and operated the L. Castonguay Floor Covering Co., Inc. of Taunton for many years. He was a former member and officer of the Taunton Lions Club. He enjoyed singing, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycles and was an avid fan of his grandchildrens’ sporting event. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 3 daughters: Susan Mallette and her husband, Richard of Taunton, Nancy Simmons of Berkley, and Denise Castonguay-Clark and her husband, Christopher of Loudon, N.H.; 3 sisters: Aline Lamarre of New Bedford, Pauline Poisson of Worcester, and Doris Richard and her husband, Paul of New Bedford; his brothers-in-law: Wallace Poisson and his wife, Joan of New Bedford, Ted Kuczewski and his wife, Agnes of Taunton, Philippe Denis of Virginia, and Alfred Denis of Taunton; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Leo was also the grandfather of the late Brooke Elizabeth Simmons and brother of the late Ernest Castonguay and Claire Moniz.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Wednesday, January 13 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
