Marco A. Giacalone passed away peacefully at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House of Haverhill, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87. Born and raised in Boston’s North End, he was the son of the late Angelo and Angela Giacalone. Marco worked all his life as a commercial fisherman. He started as a boy fishing on his father’s boat and worked on the sea until his retirement. A resourceful and levelheaded man, Marco once saved the Captain of his ship from certain death during a serious equipment failure and kept him stable until the Coast Guard could airlift him to the Hospital. Marco was devoted to his family and enjoyed the company of his large family and many friends. He was a member of the Madonna Del Soccorso Society in the North End. A Medford resident for 50 years, Marco lived the past several years in Methuen and enjoyed winters in Florida with Michela, his loving wife.
The beloved husband of Michela (Gerardi), Marco was a devoted father to Angelo and his wife Michele of Palm Coast, FL, Daniel and his wife Susan of Hampton, NH, Richard and his wife Susan of Wilmington, Lisa Morris and her husband Stephen of Derry, NH. He leaves his loving grandchildren: Carissa, Bianca, Allison, Daniel, Jacob, Michael, Matthew, Michela, Jacob and great-granddaughter Bella. He was a dear brother to Michela Ristagno and dear stepson of Maria Giacalone and brother of Johnny, David, Paul, Marina, James and Connie.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday 4 – 8 PM and again on Wednesday, January 13th at 9 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
