Obituary

Daner Mae Griffin, 80, of Fitzgerald, died Friday, January 8, 2016, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Monday, January 11, 2016, at Crossview Baptist Church in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Griffin was born August 25, 1935, in Haleyville, Alabama, to the late Joseph Albert & Mary Nancy Arthur Cook. She was a graduate of Fitzgerald High School. Mrs. Griffin worked for many years in the Ben Hill Primary School Cafeteria, retiring in 2008. She was an avid seamstress, making clothes for her children and grandchildren, and even matching outfits for their Barbie dolls. She made a loving home for her family and served as a mother and grandmother to many of her extended family and friends. A woman of strong faith, Mrs. Griffin ministered to others in anyway that she could with a compassionate heart and a genuine love of people. She was a member of Crossview Baptist Church and the Senior Adult Ladies Sunday school class.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Darlene Cook of Fitzgerald, Millard E. “Sport” Griffin, Jr. of Graniteville, South Carolina, Marcia & Kenneth Smith of Clarkston, Andi & Tommy Davis of Fitzgerald, and Stacy & Carolyn Griffin of Fitzgerald; grandchildren and their spouses: Dawn & Mike Thompson of Clarkston, Catherine & Tim Turnage of Fitzgerald, Shanna & James Norton of Irwin County, Brandon Cook of Fitzgerald, Nicole Cook of Fitzgerald, Wes & Lauren Griffin of Fitzgerald, CPL Garret Griffin, USMC of North Carolina, Coby Griffin of Fitzgerald, and Katie Griffin of Fitzgerald; and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Millard Eugene Griffin, Sr.; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Grace Spinks; and a sister, Mary Jo Sumner.
