Melba Padgett Vickers, 81, of Tifton passed away Friday, January 8, 2016, at her residence. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2016, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with Rev. Andy Ring and Rev. Brantley Seymour officiating. Mrs. Vickers will be laid to rest at Tift Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 10, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ricky Carrington, Stan Walker, Rocky Carrington, Travis Wall, Seth Dale and Monty Spinks will serve as pallbearers. Sam Greene will serve as honorary escort.
Born October 1, 1934 in Tift County, Mrs. Vickers was the daughter of the late A. J. Padgett and Miriam Frances Spinks Padgett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Victor Velpo Vickers, who died in 2013. She retired after 43 years from Tift Regional Medical Center and was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Tifton. She loved cooking, gardening and spoiling her grandchildren.
Mrs. Vickers is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley and Ricky Carrington, Wanda Horton and Marsha and Stan Walker, all of Tifton; four grandchildren and their spouses, Rocky and Kim Carrington, Jocelyn and Travis Wall, Emily and Seth Dale and Allison Walker; three great-grandchildren, Brooke Carrington, Brantt Carrington and Jayden Wall; and a brother, Kenneth J. Padgett of Waynesboro.
