Mary M. (Scherf) Tavano, 98, of Brooksville, FL died January 7, 2016 at Tangerine Cove Assisted Living in Brooksville, FL.
She was the wife of the late Fiore A. Tavano.
Born in Valleyfield, Quebec, the daughter of the late George and Theresa (Jackson) Scherf, she lived in New Bedford most of her life before moving to Florida in 2006.
She was formerly employed as a cafeteria worker in New Bedford High School for several years until retirement. Mrs. Tavano also was the bookkeeper for her husband's business, Tavano Trucking. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital.
Survivors include her son-in-law, David Griffiths of Dartmouth and Brooksville, FL; 2 grandchildren, Ryan Griffiths and his wife Beth of Brooksville, FL and Michael Griffiths and his companion Nicki Nunes of New Hampton, NH; 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Marilyn Griffiths and the sister of the late Julia DeBlois and George Scherf.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 12th at 11 AM in St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours Tuesday morning from 9-10:30 AM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford.
