Obituary

Antone R. Rose, 83, of New Bedford died January 5, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital after a brief illness.
He was the husband of the late Catherine L. (Luz) Rose.
Born in Vineyard Haven, the son of the late Antone and Julia M. (Silva) Rose, he lived in New Bedford most of his life. He enjoyed wintering in North Port, FL.
Mr. Rose was parishioner of Our Lady of the Assumption Church.
He was formerly employed as equipment manager and janitor at the New Bedford High School field house for 33 years. He was also a longshoreman in New Bedford for 40 years.
Mr. Rose was an honorary member of the Cape Verdean-American Veterans Association and a member of the Gaylord Club.
Survivors include his daughter, Andrea Rose-Wheatley and her husband Buddy of New Bedford; his companion, Isabel Barboza of Fall River; Erie Cabral, Greg Mendes and Joel and Corey Stelmark, who were like his children; a brother, James Costello of New Bedford; his uncle, Joseph Silva; 6 grandchildren, Jordan, Alanee, Tanner, Brandon, Marcel and Bryant; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was the brother of the late Joanna Silva, Mary Lopes, John Rose, Joseph Rose and Augusta Monteiro.
His Funeral will be held on Monday, January 11th at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 10th from 2-6 PM.
