Joseph W. DeMagistris, 92, of Cooper Road, Harmony, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 in the Hospice Intake Center, Providence. He was the husband of Gloria (Cannavo) DeMagistris and husband of the late Rita DeMagistris.
Born in Providence, a son of the late Ralph and Blanche (Houle) DeMagistris. He had lived in Glocester previously living in Smithfield and Providence. Joseph was an Army Veteran and had served in the US Merchant Marine. He had retired as a Sargent with the Providence Police Department and later provided security at the VA Medical Center in Providence. He was a member of Providence FOP #3, American Legion Post 14 and VFW Post #45, Providence.
He was the father of David A. DeMagistris of Providence, Karen A. Carlson of Scituate, Linda J. Dorval of Hope, Wendy A. Lachance of Baldwin, MO, Sandra J. Bowser of North Scituate and Marie C. Smith of Smithfield. He was the brother of Claire Gormly of Scituate and Alfred DeMagistris of Providence. Grandfather of 15 and Great-grandfather of 20. He was the father of the late William and Ralph DeMagistris and brother of the late Camile Ferri, Ralph, Robert, Thomas, Frank, David, Leonard and Louise DeMagistris.
His funeral will be Thursday at 8:30am from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veteran’s Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Wednesday 4-7pm.
