James Edward Alfrey

James Edward Alfrey 91, died on January 1, 2016 at Community Hospital in Anderson.
He was born on January 3, 1924 in Anderson to Herbert and Anna Mae (Crouse)Alfrey. He was employed at Delco Remy Plant 3 as a Tool and Dye maker. He was also licensed as a HAM Radio Operator
Jim was a loving grandfather who was devoted and gave encouragement to his children and grandchildren. Jim had a strong faith in God and served his church as, an Elder, member of Christian Men's Fellowship, Elder Emeritus, Trustee, and Custodian. He served in the U.S. Navy as an Electrician's Mate, Third Class of the USN- I, from January 13, 1943- February 1, 1946 and received the Victory Medal. Because God came first in his life, he was not only an example to his family but a blessing to everyone around him.
He is survived by his 3 children: Stephen (Diane) Alfrey, Keith Alfrey, Brian (Angela) Alfrey, Grandchildren Randi Alfrey, Kyle Alfrey, Megan (Todd) McCuthcheon, and Joshua (Heather) Alfrey. Great Grandchildren: Skyler Alfrey, Hayden Alfrey, Edrena McCuthcheon, Elizabeth Alfrey, and Emily Alfrey
He is preceded in death by his wife Virginia Alfrey of 61 years, parents Herbert and Anna Mae (Crouse) Alfrey, three brothers Merle Alfrey, Duane Alfrey, and Larry Alfrey; two sisters Jewel Fetty, Nondais Simons.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Chesterfield Christian Church, 207 E. Plum St., Chesterfield with Pastor Ned Clark officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park.
Military graveside rites will be provided by VFW Post 266 Honor Guard
Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service handled the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Chesterfield Christian Church.
