Obituary

John T. Tibbetts, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Friday, January 1, 2016 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following an extended illness. He was 69 years old.

John was born in Boston on May 13, 1946, a son of the late Kenneth J. "Buster" Tibbetts and Helen M. (Mullen) Tibbetts. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Catherine's Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1964 and was the leading goal scorer in the state of Massachusetts playing for the Charlestown High School Hockey Team. John furthered his education and attended Providence College where he excelled on the varsity hockey team for 4 years and graduated in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business. John worked for the United States Postal Service as a mail handler for over 15 years.

John's passion in his life was hockey. He was very involved in his 2 sons hockey careers coaching both of them in Charlestown Youth Hockey and Junior A Hockey. John, along with his best friends, Eddie Johnson and Phil Coleman established the Boston Barons Hockey Team which later became The Quinn Club Hockey Team and traveled each year with the best high school hockey players in the state of Massachusetts to play all over Europe. John was also the owner and coach along with his best friends of the O'Neill Hockey Club which later became the Boston Harborwolves Hockey Team and played all over New England in the junior A leagues.

John was a Trustee for The Michael P. Quinn Scholarship Fund in Charlestown and enjoyed golfing and country music. John's biggest enjoyment later in his life was his 2 grandchildren and the special times he was able to spend with them.

John is the beloved husband of 45 years to Judy E. (Semonian) Tibbetts. He is the devoted father of Paul Tibbetts and his wife Jennifer and Michael Tibbetts and his companion Krystie Eatherton. He is the loving Papa to Alexa and Anthony. He is the beloved brother of Michael Tibbetts and his companion Paula Hart, James Tibbetts and his wife Julie, Thomas Tibbetts and his wife Maura, Carol O'Connor and her husband George and Kathleen McCullough and her husband John. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend John's Funeral on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. His visiting hours will be on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
