SACO- Louise Lillian Varney, age 89, passed away on Jan. 1, 2016 at home in Saco.
She was born in Portsmouth, NH on June 19, 1926, the daughter of the late Alfred and Gladys (Glidden) King.
Louise was raised in Bath, Maine and graduated from Bath High School in 1944.
She was married for 50 years to her late husband, Robert H. Varney Sr., who passed away in 1998.
She was an avid participant and communicant of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, and a dedicated volunteer at PenBay Medical Center for 30 years.
In 2007, she moved from Rockland to Saco to live with her son Steven and his wife Pam.
Louise will always be remembered as a positive “glass is half full” person, who was known for laughter and knitting. Family was the most important aspect of Louise's life and she deeply loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She always cherished family gatherings and reunions.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert H. Varney Sr.; her sons- Robert H. Varney Jr. who passed away in 2004 and George A. Varney who passed away in 2001; and her siblings- Lewis and Buddy King.
Louise is survived by her sons- Timothy Varney and his partner Darlene Hogue of Freedom, ME, and Steve Varney and his wife Pam of Saco; grandchildren- Melinda Marston and her husband Bert of South Portland, Melanie Crowe and her husband Eric of Litchfield, Dawn Donovan and her husband Andrew of Biddeford, Lisa Marshall and her husband Mike of Guilford, NH, Amy Germaine and her husband Jack of Andover, MA, Sean Varney and his wife Rhonda of Bucksport, Brent Varney and his wife Roxanne of South Hope, ME, Aaron Varney of South Hope, Abigail Varney of Augusta, Deanna Russell and her husband Bill of Northfield, VT, and Robert A. Varney and his partner Jackie Ybarra of Dover, NH.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Southern Maine for their care, comfort and support of Louise.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Jan. 8 at 11 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 271 Main St. Saco. Burial will be in the spring in Rockland.
