Nitsos, Dorothy A. (McCarthy), 86, fondly known as “Dot”, of Plymouth, Massachusetts, and a former, 33-year resident of Ridgefield, CT, passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth on December 28. Dot was married to the late Fethon Nitsos, who passed away in 2006, for almost 50 years. She leaves their six children, Pamela Gruley (Bryan) of Chicago, IL; Mark Nitsos (Pattie Dolan) of Commack, NY; Laura Nitsos (Tracy Peterson) of Albuquerque, NM; Donna Ellison (Michael) of Oak Hill, VA: Jay Nitsos (Wendy) of Greensboro, NC; and Amy Cerruti (Todd) of Norwell, MA. She also leaves 20 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edmund McCarthy and Joan McCarthy.
Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Edmund and Josephine (Casper) McCarthy. She was a devout Catholic and a loving, caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, who touched the lives of those she knew with her warmth, laughter, and fun-loving spirit. Her compassion for others was reflected in her volunteer work in the Ridgefield, CT community and her generosity to numerous charities. She took great pride and joy not only in her family but also her extensive network of friends.
A time of visitation will be held on Monday, January 4 from 10:00 to 10:45 AM at Davis Funeral and Cremation, 619 State Road (Rte. 3A), Plymouth (Manomet). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bonaventure Parish, 803 State Road, Plymouth, MA at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s memory may be made to St Bonaventure Parish, P.O. Box 996, Manomet, MA 02345, or a charity of your choice.
