Obituary

Hodges, Mary Evelyn (Dutton) “Meg” of Wellesley, passed away Tuesday evening December 22, 2015, age 90.

Beloved wife of Stanley G. Hodges for 51 years, loving mother of Beth Olney and her husband Tom of Wayland, and Mark Hodges of Denver, CO.  Devoted “GrandMeg” to Thomas and Matthew Olney and Lauren Hodges Schuilo, sister of the late Harold Laforest Dutton.  She is greatly missed by many nieces and nephews.

Born January 21, 1925 in Portsmouth, NH to Julius and Marion (Petrie) Dutton, Meg is a graduate of Wheaton College, and earned two Graduate Degrees from Boston University in Education and Psychology.

After staying home with her young children she returned to her profession, beginning a new career at age 50 as a School Psychologist, and retired from the Framingham Public Schools at age 72.

Once retired, she shifted her energies to work with a number of local organizations.  She was on the Board of the Wellesley Historical Society, working for many years as the Recording Secretary.  She managed The Good Citizen Award program with the DAR for over ten years.  She was also a member of the Wellesley Women’s club, and acted as President for a time.  In retirement, Meg became an avid bridge player and effortlessly took up golf at the Nehoiden Golf Club at Wellesley College.

Meg was actively involved and engaged in her world, whether as a student, professional woman or a volunteer, but in a calm, quiet, unpretentious way. She was incredibly thoughtful and considerate, a gentlewoman in every way.

Services will be held at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington St. (Rte 16) Saturday, Jan 9th at 11am, followed by a tea reception. Relatives and friends kindly invited.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Meg’s memory to the Wellesley Historical Society, 229 Washington St., Wellesley, MA 02481.
