Sarah A. Whatley, 85, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at her daughter's residence in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in Pinetta Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday.
Ms. Whatley was born February 27, 1930, in McRae, Georgia, to the late James Steve & Aileene Outz Allen. She was the head cashier at the Colonial Store for 18 years and worked in Quality Control at Eaton Corporation. She was very adventurous and enjoyed traveling, including to New Zealand. She was a charter member of the Green Thumb Gardening Club and enjoyed working in her yards, even earning her Master Gardener degree. An avid reader, Ms. Whatley adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a member of Arbor Baptist Church for over 60 years and attended the Mae Drexler Sunday school class.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Mitchell Whatley & Ann of Manapouri, New Zealand, Janice W. Guy & Sammy of Fitzgerald, and Diane W. Nix & John of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; grandchildren and their spouses: Michelle & Ian McConnell, Suzanne Whatley, Allen & Christy Guy, Josh & Kelly Guy, and Marcus & Amanda Guy, Daniel Nix, Nathan Nix, and Zachary Nix; great-grandchildren: Zoe, Hamish, and Erin McConnell, Luke and Logan Guy, Parker, Gavin, and Sam Guy, and Cooper and Cayden Guy; a sister, Edna A. Folsom of Glennville and a sister-in-law, Lily Whatley of McRae. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
