James E. Jordan, 84, of Gales Ferry passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at his home. He rejoins his beloved wife of nearly 56 years, Wanda (Rogers) Jordan, whom he married after a two week courtship.
She predeceased him in 2009.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on October 14, 1931, the son and youngest child of Gladys and James E. Jordan Sr., alongside his sister Charlotte Schramm, who predeceased him in 2013.
Jim was a proud veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, serving in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a Master Diver. Following his military service he worked for 20 years in civil service as a medical research laboratory assistant.
James spent over 60 years as a member of the Masonic fraternity, wherein he attained status as a 32nd degree mason.
He is lovingly survived by his son, James L. Jordan and his wife Johnnie, four beloved grandchildren, Erica Firmin, Jamie Jordan, Zak Jordan and his wife Nicole, and Amber Jordan; his great grand-daughter Reese Firmin; as well as by his brother-in-law Carl Schramm.
Jim's family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, January 8th from 3-5pm at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic.
Reception to follow immediately after at the Groton Elks Club.
Interment will be private for the family in the St. Mary Cemetery Mausoleum in New London, at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
