Helen M. (Del Mastro) Giarle, a lifelong Medford resident, passed away on Saturday, December 26th in the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital. She was 92.
Born in Boston, she was raised in Medford and was the daughter of the late Emilio and Josephine (Juliano) Del Mastro. Helen attended Medford High School and graduated with the class of 1941. A proud veteran, she served in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Apprentice-First Class. Following her honorable discharge, Helen married her husband Louis in 1946. The two began their life together and built a home where they raised their family with love and integrity. A woman of great faith, Helen was a true Christian who shared those teachings with everyone in her life. An avid traveler, she enjoyed traveling around the world and learning about different cultures. Helen was a dedicated homemaker as well as a proud dental assistant. Following her retirement, Helen enjoyed spending quality time with her family and friends. Helen will be remembered for her love of others, passion for living life to the fullest, dedication to working hard and her delicious meatballs.
Helen was the beloved wife of the late Louis V. Giarle, with whom she shared sixty-six loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Janis Schwab of Arkansas and the late Richard Giarle who passed away in January of 2015. Helen was the loving grandmother of four and the loving great grandmother of six. She was the dear sister of Robert Del Mastro of New Hampshire, the late Lucille Aborn, Clara DeStefano and Dick Del Mastro. Helen is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Memorial Mass on Saturday, January 9th in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford, at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
