Obituary

John Joseph Alphonse a resident of Taunton passed away on the morning of December 24, 2015 at the Veteran’s Hospital in W. Roxbury, MA following a brief illness. Mr. Alphonse was 81 years old. He was the beloved husband of Janice Alphonse “Jan” (Weed) of Taunton. John was born September 6, 1934 in Cambridge and was the son of the late John J. Alphonse, Sr. and Ida Souza. Upon his graduation from high school he enlisted into the military as a Sailor in the United States Navy with whom he served honorably during the Korean Conflict. He and Jan shared nearly 48 years blissful years of marriage, marrying in 1968.

Throughout his life John left his fingerprints on many trades. He worked with the Massachusetts “T”, labored as a union carpenter and taught at the Southeastern Regional Vocational High School in South Easton. For much of his adult life he owned and operated a heating and air conditioning repair and installation company, before retiring and becoming a security guard for Madison Security.

Some of John’s favorite past times were fishing, deer hunting, horseshoes and heading to the casino.

Along with his loving wife Jan, John is survived by his sons Eric Alphonse and his wife Nancy of Norton, John Joseph Alphonse of the Carolinas, Brian Alphonse of Newport, RI; his daughters Renee Botticelli of Canton and Deborah Mullaney and her husband John of Whitman. He is survived by his 14 grandchildren. Mr. Alphonse was also a proud great grandfather of 21. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Greenwood of Brockton and is reunited with his brother the late Kenneth H. “Kenny” Alphonse who passed away this past October.

Visiting Hours will be held from 4:00-6:30pm on Tuesday December 29th at Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St (off Tremont St/Route 140) TAUNTON. A Catholic Prayer service will be held at 6:30pm with Military Honors by the United States Navy commencing the services for the evening. Cremation will follow at Woodlawn-North Purchase Crematory in Attleboro.
