TAUNTON - Agnes (Ascensao) Torres passed away at Christmastime, surrounded by her loving family following a very long battle with multiple myeloma.
She was born in Taunton on January 24, 1925, was baptized and later married at St. Anthony Church in Taunton where she was a lifelong parishioner.
She was in her 91st year.
Educated in Taunton schools, she enjoyed homemaking, later working in the jewelry and bookbinding industries, and retired from the Taunton public school system.
She closely followed local and national political current events, and was a well-known caller to WPEP radio in Taunton for many years.
Agnes was the wife of the late Manuel Torres and daughter of the late Manuel and Wilhermina (Santos) Ascensao.
She was the mother of Richard Torres and wife Doreen of East Taunton, the late Nancy Torres Grant, and Mark Torres and his wife Elaine of Berkley.
She was the loving Gramma of Nicole, Jessica, Karaline, Jennifer, Ashlee, Rick, Stacy, Christine and Kyla and 9 great grandchildren.
Agnes also leaves her close friend and cousin, Celia Basso, and is survived by many nieces, nephews and family members.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday, Dec. 30th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Dec. 29th from 5 to 8 p.m.
