Murray M. Wax of Provincetown died peacefully Tuesday, December 22nd at Seashore Point Wellness Center in Provincetown. He was 86.
Born and educated in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late David and Celia (Zimmerman) Wax. Upon graduating from high school, he received a BA degree from the University of Minnesota. After graduation he pursued additional study and then moved to New York City to work in theater. He worked for the Actors Equity Association’s Actors’ Fund. He also worked at the Downtown Gallery, the Heisenberg Gallery and the Forum Gallery, all in the City.
In 1958, he moved to Provincetown on a part-time basis, moving here full time in the early 1990’s. Murray worked in art galleries around town as well as several shops in the pre-fire Whalers Wharf. He also worked at Small Pleasures and the Mad Hatter.
Murray had many, many friends and would often be seen chatting with friends as he walked his dog ‘Marlon Brando’ around town.
He leaves a nephew, Victor Hage of Texas. He also leaves his good friend, Ann Ertel of Orleans.
A Celebration of Murrays life will take place in the spring.
