Obituary

Karleen M. Lane, 86, of Chula, Georgia, died Sunday, December 20, 2015, in Chula at her daughter’s residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at the Waterloo Baptist Church in Irwin County, with the Dr. Jeff Pangle officiating. Interment will follow in the Eureka Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Irwin County. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 1 PM until the service hour, at the church.

Mrs. Lane was born August 4, 1929, in Douglas, Georgia, to the late Henry Daniel Moore and Dora Mae Smith Fletcher and raised by the late W. J. Fletcher. She had lived in the community since 1998, moving from Valdosta. She was a telephone operator for Southern Bell and retired from the communications department as an operator with Moody Air Force Base. Mrs. Lane was a founding member of Westside Baptist Church in Valdosta and also started a reading club known as “Story Book Time” at Westside Baptist Church. She was always looking for the positive in any situation. She enjoyed reading, cooking, sewing, nature and especially her pets. Once she stopped traffic to rescue two puppies. She loved her dog Coco for twelve years. Mrs. Lane also owned greenhouses and shipped flowers all over the world. She was a member of the Waterloo Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter: Warena L. Youmans of Chula; grandchildren: Kimberly Youmans, Beth & Gary Vowell, Jay & Melissa Youmans, Erik Cox & Lori and Heather Cox-Butler & Chris and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her step-father, she was preceded in death by her husband: Joe Bryant Lane, daughter: Jo Karon L. Cox; two sisters: Alejo Moore and Jimmie Kelly.
