
PIERCE, Mildred “Regina,” 84, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 18, 2015, after having “fought the good fight” with cancer. She was born in the Old 23rd District, Big Sandy, Tennessee, on June 29, 1931, to William Elvis and Venola (Martin) Ross.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents, Elvis and Venola Ross; and her brother, Harold Dan Ross.
She left a legacy of love to her husband, Dillard P. Pierce; daughters, Sharon Kay Williams (Larry) and Patricia (Pat) Jean Iglehart (Tom); and “Gina-Mom” to three grandchildren, Bryce David Williams (Toni), Jill Regina Stephens (Chris), and Erin Leigh Iglehart; four great-grandchildren, Abby & Luke Williams, and Savannah & Cole Stephens; three sisters, Glendora Crews, Joetta Nance (Eugene), and Janice O’Neal (Dee); and numerous nieces and nephews.
On July 4, 1950, Regina married Dillard Pierce, a 65-year union.
Regina attended Henry High School where she developed a passion for basketball and was often called out of her 8th grade class to play on the varsity team. As a teenager, she was baptized at Springhill Baptist Church where she served as Secretary of the Training Union. In 1949, her family moved to Louisville where she attended Victory Memorial Baptist Church. Most recently, she was a member of Southside Baptist Church, moving her letter to Shively Baptist Church in 2006.
After 28 years, she retired from Enro Shirt Company. Regina earned her 60-year pin as a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 154.
Her celebration of life will be 1:00pm on Monday, December 21, 2015 at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway, with Resthaven Cemetery as her resting place.
Visitation is 2:00-7:00pm Sunday at Owen Funeral Home. Dr. Russell Bennett will officiate.
