Robert J. O’Brien, 89, of Medway died December 18 in his home. He was the husband of Teresa M. (Martin) O’Brien for the past 65 years.
Born in Milford, July 23, 1926, the son of the late William and Mary Josephine (DeWire) O’Brien, Mr. O’Brien was a lifelong Medway resident.
Mr. O’Brien had been a master pipe fitter for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at Medfield State Hospital for 34 years.
He had been a water commissioner for the Town of Medway and had served as a Special Police Officer for the Town of Medway for over 20 years. He was past vice Commander of the American Legion Post 367.
Mr. O’Brien served in the Army, with the 2nd Division, during World War II, attaining the rank of Private First Class.
Bob enjoyed cars, “tinkering” and welding.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Kathleen Murray of Medway, Mark O’Brien and his wife Claire of Tarrytown, New York, Mary O’Brien of Medway and was the father of the late Julie Fahrenholt.
He is also survived by his son-in-law Steven Fahrenholt of Norwood and his grandchildren, Courtney Marshall of Medway, Ryan Murray of Medway and Nicole and Erica O’Brien of Tarrytown, New York.
He was the brother of the late William O’Brien.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 22 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 3 Barber Street, Medway at 9:15 followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
