Jennie ( DiPilato) Vastila, 88, formerly of Worcester, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2015.
She was born on June 11, 1927 in Worcester, Massachusetts a daughter of the late Pantaleo and Teresa DiPilato whom immigrated from Italy. Loving wife to the late Ossi Vastila.
Jennie moved to California in 1963 where she lived until her passing. She worked for 34 years at the University of California, Berkley, where she retired in 1991 as a Purchasing Director- Facilities Manager. Jennie loved to travel, go out to dinner, garden, and shop. Her travels included trips to Worcester, Italy, Finland, many States in the U.S. as well as many European countries. She had many friends who supported her with a special thanks to Margaret and Betty.
Jennie was active as a volunteer when living in Worcester, involved with the Food Stamp program during WWII, assistance programs for Worcester’s Great Tornado, and a founder of St Joan of Arc Church.
Jennie is survived by two sisters, Angelina Pepin of CA. and Lucrezia “Grace” Cariglia; a brother, Frank DiPilato both of Worcester ; Jennie leaves many nieces and nephews, including Gregory Pepin, who helped to care for her during the last few years of her life.
Jennie is predeceased by three brothers Joseph, John, and Dominic DiPilato, and one sister, Lee Murphy.
Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday, December 19th at Our Lady of Mt Carmel- St Ann Church from 9:00am to 10:00am.
