Paul S. Nakis, 64, a resident of Newburyport, MA, died on Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital in Portsmouth, NH, surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
He was born in Ipswich, MA on February 21, 1951 to Menelaus and Mary (Kokores) Nakis. Paul was educated in Ipswich local schools and later having moved to Newburyport be was a 1969 graduate of Newburyport High School, also a graduate of The Art Institute of New York. He worked as a Police Officer for the Newburyport Police Department until his retirement.
He enjoyed many things in his life which included surfing, camping, gardening, fishing, hunting, and especially cooking. Paul was a great cook! For many years Paul was an instrumental part in helping the Newburyport Greek church to cook for their annual Greek Festivals. In the last 12 years, Pauls passions turned to Archery. he began as a beginner and progressed very quickly to competing in numerous local, regional, national, and world events, where he occasionally placed in the top 3. Not only did he love competing, he became a talented archery coach. He was not only a certified bow hunter education instructor, but achieved a level 2 JOAD (Junior Archery Olympic Development) instructor certification. Paul's students not only loved his unique style of teaching, but loved his uplifting and inspiring personality. He also loved and adored his family and liked to spend time with them. He will be sorely missed!
He is survived by his children who will sadly miss him; his son Paul M. Nakis and his wife Valerie of Newton, NH, daughters: Kristen Nakis of Amesbury, Victoria Nakis of Candia, NH, Morgan Nakis of Newburyport, and his three grandchildren: granddaughter Charlie Nakis, and the grand twins Cameron & Thomas Nakis.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11:00 and a burial will follow at the New Highland Cemetery in Ipswich, MA.
