TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Muriel Eleanor (Bowker) Hicks, age 87, died peacefully Tuesday afternoon, December 15, at Lowell General’s Saints Campus after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife for sixty-three years of Norman W. Hicks, who died in February 2010.
Muriel was born in Saugus in May 1928, a daughter of the late David and Alice (O’Neal) Bowker, and was raised in Saugus. She had lived in Lynn before moving to Tewksbury in 1956.
She was remembered as having devoted her life to her family. She especially enjoyed baking with her grandchildren, loved nights out at Bingo, loved scratch tickets and playing the lottery, assembling puzzles, and long Sunday drives throughout New England.
She leaves three children, Dennis N. Hicks of Fairhaven, VT, Marcia E. Murray and her husband Douglas of Lowell, and Jeff Hicks of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, David Murray of Nashua, Brian Murray of New Ipswich, NH, Kathryn Murray of Clinton, Dennis N. Hicks Jr. of Enfield, NH, Nichole Dexter of Fairhaven, VT, Chris Malfy of Pembroke, NH; seven great grandchildren, Zachary, Emilie, Kaelyn, Harry, Nicholas, Alana and Cody; a brother, Robert and his wife Elva Bowker of Saugus, many nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by her siblings, David Bowker, James Bowker, Kenneth Bowker, and Phyllis Knowlton.
At her request funeral services are private.
