LEICESTER: Barbara M. (Wood) Whitney, 85, of Auburn St. in the Cherry Valley section of Leicester, died Tuesday, Dec.15 at her home.
She leaves her husband of 66 years, Robert D. Whitney, two sons; Gary R. Whitney and his wife Phyllis of Cherry Valley, and Russell D. Whitney and his wife Joan of Leicester, her daughter, Maureen A. Whitney of Cherry Valley, two brothers; Paul Wood of Arkansas and David Wood and his wife Gail of Charlton, four grandchildren Jason Whitney and his wife Jessica, Brian Whitney, Laura Whitney, Marc Whitney and his wife Jessica, a great grandson Colin Whitney who was born on Barbara's 85th. birthday, many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by brothers John J. Wood, Jr. and Robert Wood and her sister Jean DePari.
Barbara was a clerk at the Leicester Public Library for 15 years, retiring in 1997.
Born in Leicester, she was the daughter of John J. and Mabel (LaBree) Wood, Sr. and later graduated from Leicester High School. She was a longtime member of the Leicester Women's Club, Friends of the Leicester Library, St. Joseph-St. Pius X Parish and was an avid gardener.
The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care given Barbara by the V.N.A. Hospice of Worcester.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, Dec. 17 from the MORIN FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main St., Leicester with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Pius X Church, 1153 Main St., Leicester. A calling hour will be held on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass.
