Joyce Vickers Jones, 81, of Irwinville, died Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Monday, December 14, 2015 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Virgil Vickers officiating. Interment will follow in Vickers Cemetery, Berrien County. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Jones was born November 30, 1934, in Berrien County, Georgia, to the late Troy M. & Mary Etta Musslewhite Vickers. She worked mostly in retail sales during her career at many local stores including: General Appliance, Family Dollar, J.M. Fields, and Allied Department Store. She also worked at Patsy’s Baby Shop and Mama’s Baby Shop. Mrs. Jones traveled with her husband during his distinguished Navy career. A former resident of Jacksonville, Florida and Marion, Florida, she had lived in the Irwinville community since 1980. Mrs. Jones was a lifetime member of the D.A.V. Auxiliary and a member of Irwinville Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son: Ray & Nelda Bowen of Irwinville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Patsy Spradlin of Irwinville; and a brother, Rev. Virgil Vickers of Irwinville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Donald Jones; two sons: Jackie Bowen and Keith Bowen; a brother, Kenneth Vickers; and a sister, Faye Vickers.
