Edith M. (Roetzer) Nadeau, 93 formerly of Salem, died on Sunday, December 6, 2015 at Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly following a long illness. She was the wife of the late J. Roland E. Nadeau.
Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Maria (Hermine) Roetzer. Edith met her husband while he was serving in Austria during the occupation following the close of World War II. Following his tour of duty the couple returned to his home town of Salem.
Edith devoted most of her time to her family and in her later years worked cook and housekeeper for the rectory of the former St. Joseph Parish of Salem. She was a former president of the Richelieu North of Boston Club and was a member of Les Dames de la Ste. Famille a sodality of St. Joseph Parish.
An excellent cook she excelled in Viennese pastries and her apple strudel. She loved music, dancing and was extremely proud of her Austrian heritage.
She is survived by her two sons, Roland C. Nadeau and his partner in life, Lisa Miles both of Salem, Richard C. Nadeau and his wife Pamela of Salem, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Curt & Richard and sister, Herta all of Austria.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 12:00 noon, followed by her burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
