Survived by children Anne Hill (Nate), John Hammer (Dianne) & Tina Hammer; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; & family in Norway. Born in Overhalla, Norway, on August 18, 1932, Tordis (named after Thor, the God of Thunder) married Birger Hammer in Oslo, Norway, on August 19, 1958, & immigrated to the U.S. on the same day. Moved to MN from Houghton, MI in 1960 (following Birger's graduation) shortly before the birth of their first child. Settled in the Tri Lakes Area of Lake Elmo in 1969, where she lived 'til her death, and was active in that community for many years. She devoted her life to raising her children & helping with her grandchildrens' care. She enjoyed her great grandchildren, her pets (both domestic & wild), baking, bird watching, music, entertaining, skiing, creative activities, bridge & following politics. Perhaps her strongest legacy is her Scandinavian baking, particularly at Christmas, which was sent with great care to both coasts every December. Tordis will be remembered for her feisty spirit, high energy, infectious laugh & gift for story telling, in addition to her great generosity. Celebration of Life Sunday (12/13) at 2:00 PM at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul, with visitation one hour prior to service. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to your local Humane Society.
