Celedonio “Cele” Landa Madera, 70, longtime Prosser resident, entered into rest on December 6, 2015 at Prosser Memorial Hospital.
He was born on March 3, 1945 to Lucio and Esther (Madera) Landa in Mesa de Piedras, Jalisco, Mexico where he was raised and educated. As a young man, he was one of the first to leave his ranch in Mexico and travel to the United States. In August of 1967, he made his home in Prosser and soon after met his future wife. Cele married Manuela “Mela” Castaneda on September 22, 1968 in Prosser and the couple raised three children.
Cele worked for Lewis Brother’s Farms for the past thirty-seven years. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a very humble and hardworking man. He worked from sun up to sun down and never complained. He loved being outdoors and working in his yard with his wife Mela. Cele was very compassionate towards his kids and grandkids. He always kept tabs on what they were up to and what they were doing. He never missed a day of checking in on them and offering his helpful advice. Cele was very friendly and helpful to everyone he met. He enjoyed traveling to Mexico every year in the winter to visit his mother and family.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Mela of Prosser; his daughter, Lupe (Arturo) Caballero of Spokane, WA; his sons, Sam (Juana) Landa and David Landa of Prosser, WA; and six grandchildren, Jalisa Landa and Selena Landa of Cheney, WA, Daniella Landa and Sam Landa Jr. of Prosser, and Marcos and Maya Caballero of Spokane. He is also survived by his mother, Esther Madera of Rancho Jimulco, Jalisco, Mexico; his brothers, Luis Landa and Ruben Landa of Prosser and Raul (Genoveva) Landa of Huejuquilla el Alto, Jalisco, Mexico; his sisters, Juana (Jose) Acevedo of Prosser, Celida Landa of Rancho Jimulco, Jalisco, Mexico and Enedina (Alvino) Reyes of Gerber, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lucio Landa and his brother, Claudio Landa.
Visitation will be held at Prosser Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 8th and 9th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10th at Prosser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Concluding services and burial will follow in the Prosser Cemetery.
