Josephine L. "Jo" Kane, 74, a life-long resident of Lawrence passed away on Friday, December 4th, 2015 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA.
She was born on November 11, 1941 in Boston, MA., daughter of the late James and Marguerite (McEneaney) Kane. Jo was raised in Lawrence where she attended the local schools and was a graduate of Lawrence High School.
She later received her Bachelors Degree from Emmanuel College in Boston, where she majored in History and Psychology, she graduated in 1963. Jo then worked from 1963-67 for the Town of Wilmington as a Social Worker.
In 1967 she received her Teachers Certificate from Salem State College. She then taught at Holy Rosary Grammar School and for the Lawrence Public Schools where she taught Kindergarten, First and Second Grades at the Oliver School, the Lawlor School, (for 21 years), the Leahy School and retired from the Tarbox School in 2000, she taught for a total of 33 years.
She was a active member of the Lawrence Teachers Union, of the Retired Educators Association of Massachusetts (R.E.A.M.). She was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees.
She enjoyed spending many summers at the family home in Hampton Beach, she also was an avid fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots, loved current events and beating her sister at Jeopardy on many occasions.
She is survived by her loving sister Marguerite P. Kane of Lawrence, MA., who was the former Lawrence City Counselor School Committee Member, Essex County Commissioner of Lawrence and Retired Faculty Member of Merrimack College.
Josephine was the Granddaughter of the late Honorable John P. Kane, two time Mayor of Lawrence.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the John Breen Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 122 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA.
Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, at 1:00 p.m. in Saint Mary's of the Assumption Church in Lawrence, MA.
Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence, MA.
