Louis A. "Lou" Ghiradelli, a 51 year resident of Somerville and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at his home in Somerville following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 86 years old.
Lou was born in Boston on February 15, 1929, a son of the late John Ghiradelli and Emma (Bernini) Ghiradelli. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. He furthered his education and received his degree from Wentworth Institute. Lou enlisted into the United States Army on July 18, 1951 and served his country faithfully and with courage during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged on June 17, 1953 with the rank of Private First Class. Lou worked as a welder for over 30 years with Ramsey Welding and eventually became the owner of the company. He also taught welding at Shawsheen Technical High School for over 5 years. He was a member of the Medford Elks.
Lou is the beloved husband of the late Shirley A. (Dolan) Ghiradelli. He is the devoted father of Deborah Juliano and her husband John of Charlestown, Lynn Reardon and her husband Edward of Medford and Leigh Ghiradelli of Somerville. He is the loving Poppy to Richie, E.J., Scott, Taylor the late Dawn and his great-grandchildren Caeden, Rylee and Isabella. He is the brother of the late Lois Lanahan, Joe Ghiradelli, Andy Ghiradelli and Terry Ghiradelli.
Lou's Funeral Services and burial will be private.
