SALEM - Leonard Charles Fleischer, 66 – late of Salem, formerly of Malden and Medford. Passed away peacefully on November 27, 2015, at Mass. General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Malden, Len was the son of Dr. Harold W. Fleischer and Rita Rosalie (Weinstein). He attended Medford High School and, despite contracting epilepsy at 16, graduated from Manter Hall in Cambridge. Len went on to earn a bachelor of science in sociology at UMass Amherst and worked as a social worker for several years, specializing in helping seniors. He later worked for Compugraphic in Wilmington, testing and troubleshooting typesetting machines.
Len’s happiest times were spent at Lake Winnipesaukee, swimming and boating. He was an avid Boston Bruins and Patriots fan. His favorite music was Creedence and the J. Geils Band. In spite of his epilepsy, Len was determined to live independently, living on his own in Salem since 2008.
Len leaves behind his sister Barbara Fleischer-Mahoney and her husband John Mahoney of County Cork, Ireland, and his brother Andrew Fleischer and his spouse Sue Borden of Salem. He is survived by Neil and Deanna Cooper of Swampscott, and by many close cousins in California.
Services will be private. Donations in Len’s memory may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation New England. Arrangements by Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, Salem. For on line guest book, visit www.SalemFuneral.com.
