Gertrude M. Lyon, age 81, of Reading, formerly a long time resident of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at the Winchester Hospital on November 30, 2015.
Gertrude was born in Woburn, the cherished daughter of the late Gertrude (Cox) and Clayton Lyon. She was raised in Woburn, and was a graduate of Woburn High School. Later earning educational credits as a teacher’s aid at Millbrook Country Day School.
Gertrude met her former husband in High School, after their marriage and his service in the U.S. Coast Guard they settled in Wilmington. She loved being a wife, mother and "Nana" and great "Nana, she had a spirit for life and enjoyed the company of her family and friends, especially her childhood friend Mary Paulsen.
She was a lady before her time, she had great entrepreneurial skills, owning her own business for over twenty years retiring in 2006. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, to places such as Holland, Ireland and Alaska. Gert as she was known by many, was a women of great enthusiasm, she had a wonderful love of family and friends, she was very kind, gentle, and had a quick sense of humor and she lived life to the fullest.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Maureen R. Searles, Lorraine Muse and Edward G. Lyons all of New Hampshire, Clayton Lyons of Westwood, and her former husband Edward J. Lyons. Also nine loving grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is the sister of Clayton Lyon of Maryland, Sandra Lyon of Tewksbury, also survived many loving nieces and nephews and her cherished childhood friend Mary Paulsen of Reading.
She is predeceased by her late daughter Diane Crosby, her late brother Donald Lyon and her late husband Richard Hanson.
In keeping with Gertrude's wishes funeral services will be private.
