William C. (Bill) Evans, 78, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Sunday June 5, 2005 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Central United Methodist Church, with Rev. Steve Waldorf, Rev. B.J. Funk and Stephen Steedly officiating. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 9:00 Monday evening at the funeral home.
Mr. Evans was born March 1, 1927, in Sanford, Florida to the late Floyd and Carrie Hilburn Evans. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II with occupation forces in Japan. Mr. Evans was a signal maintainer for the Seaboard Coastline Railroad with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen. He had lived in Fitzgerald since 1964 moving from Jacksonville, Florida. He was a former scoutmaster in Fitzgerald and Cordele. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and the Carlisle-Mathis Sunday School Class.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of 55 years: Mariel Johnson Evans, Fitzgerald; Children: William C. (Buddy) and Rhonda Evans, Jr., Lake Blackshear, Deborah Lynne and Doug Watts, Sandy Run, SC and Mark and Reida Evans, Enigma; 6 grand sons and 3 great-grandchildren; one brother: Jack Evans, Ozark, Arkansas; 25 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and 3 brothers.
