Frances Sumner Fussell, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Friday, November 27, 2015 at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, November 30, 2015 at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John K. Mobley and Minister Michael Moore officiating. Jessie Lasseter will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Fussell was born June 6, 1925, in Ashburn, Georgia, to the late Daniel Thelma & Annie Lois Kelly Sumner. She was a seamstress at Fitzgerald Underwear and a long-time farm wife. Famous for her twelve-layer chocolate cakes, she enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. Mrs. Fussell sang with the Bernhardt Singers and was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Carolyn F. Daniel, Buddy Fussell, Harris & Sandra Fussell, Wayne & Jan Fussell, Billy Fussell, Martha F. “Cookie” & Johnny Marsh, Faye F. & Richard Gibbs, and Sarah Fussell, all of Fitzgerald; grandchildren and their spouses: Hank & Libby Daniel, Corey & Izelle Fussell, Chris & Meegan Fussell, Ashley & Kerra Fussell, Jayne Fussell, Leah & Jonathan Dickens, Cara & Thadd Peavy, Jena Fussell, Cody Fussell, Kali Fussell, Dawn & Chris Ryals, Melissa & Clay Jones, Melinda & P.K. Stembridge, John Marsh, Nonnie Moore, and Jessie & Rob Lasseter; 14 great-grandchildren; siblings and their spouses: Ralph & Patsy Sumner, Walter & Janice Sumner, Frank & Rita Sumner and Jeanette Richartz, all of Fitzgerald, and Laverne S. & Horace Pritchett of Macon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. “Dick” Fussell; a son, Curtis Fussell; a granddaughter, Sheila Kay Fussell; four brothers: Ray Sumner, Wendell Sumner, Bobby Sumner, and Kelly Sumner; and three sisters: Elizabeth S. Hall, Mary Ruth S. Walker, and Romelle Sumner.
