Obituary

Paul J. Washburn, Sr, 81, of Noank died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Apple Rehab in Mystic. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Helen (Longo) Washburn.

He was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, on September 7, 1934, the son of Elton and Gwendolyn (Hagen) Washburn. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958.

He married Helen Longo in June, 1962, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Norwich. He worked as 1st Vice President of the MDA Union at General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division, for 37 years before retiring in 1997.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Paul J. Washburn Jr. of Andover MA and his daughter Paula Washburn of Noank. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Julia, Allison and Megan Washburn and Jack and Greyson Demmons.

He is predeceased by his parents and by his siblings Douglas Washburn and Mary Jo Peterson.

Paul's family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 from 10 to 11am at the Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Mystic. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30am at St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, 69 Groton Long Point Road, Groton. Burial in will be private for the family.

Donations in his memory may be made to St. Mary Mother of the Redeemer Church, the Visiting Nurse Association, or Hospice of SECT.
