Obituary

HOLLIS- Karen Lynne Townsend Decker, 49 of Hollis passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 22, 2015 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Karen was born in Westbrook, Maine October 19, 1966, the youngest child of Basil Townsend and Elaine Goff Townsend of Buxton, and was a graduate of Bonny Eagle High School in Standish.

For many years, Karen worked as an underwriter in the insurance industry.

Karen was thoughtful, corresponding with those she loved via US mail as opposed to e-mail, it was always a surprise and pleasure when an envelope arrived in your mailbox from Karen.

Karen was a great crafter, quilter, knitter, gardener, and cook. She frequently made homemade baked goods and shared them far and wide, molasses cookies being a huge hit. Karen’s sense of humor, kindness, and thoughtfulness to others is what she will be remembered for. She always had an ear to listen, and something insightful to respond with.

Karen asked for a simple send off, but to many she was simply the best.

Besides her parents, Karen is survived by James Lombard who cared tirelessly for her in her final days of life, brother Darrell Townsend of Buxton, sister Dixie Townsend of Scarborough, 2 nieces, 3 grand nieces, many aunts, uncles, and cousins and many friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday evening, Nov. 27, from 5-7 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, located at 498 Long Plains Road / Rt. 22, in Buxton.

Online condolence messages can be submitted at the funeral home's website, www.mainefuneral.com

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Karen’s name to the VNA Home Health Hospice 50 Foden Road South Portland, Me 04106
