Obituary

BEVERLY: Edith K. (Letarte) Lavoie, 91, died Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Edward V. Lavoie who died in October 2014.
Born in Salem on January 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Albert J. and Yvonne B. (Gaudreault) Letarte. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Commercial School and Salem High School. She had resided in Salem before moving to Beverly in 1950.
Edith was employed as a claims clerk for the Division of Unemployment in Salem for over ten years before her retirement in 1985. She and her husband enjoyed sailing, square dancing and bowling for many years together.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Susan (Mohler) Lavoie of Littleton, CO; her daughter and son-in-law, Cathryn A. and Richard “Sam” Markley of Dayville, CT; four grandchildren, Edward V. Lavoie, II and his wife, Jennifer of Montgomery, AL, Joseph Markley and his wife, Chloe of Danielson, CT, Anne Marie Moat and her husband, Jason of Golden, CO and Thomas Markley and his wife, Wendi of Brooklyn, CT; four great-grandchildren, Devin and Taylor Markley and Emma and Cooper Moat; three sisters, Doris Hayes of Salem, Barbara Dombrowski and her husband, John of Cape Elizabeth, ME and Joan Cavett and her husband, Donald of Darien, CT; devoted special friend, Priscilla Campbell and many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot St., Beverly from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923. Interment will be held in North Beverly Cemetery.
