TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Mary Margaret (Canavan) Hunt, age 70, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 20, at Mass General Hospital in Boston, in the loving care of her family. She was the beloved wife of Robert J. Hunt, with whom she had celebrated a forty-eighth wedding anniversary this past April 29th.
She was born in Boston in January, 1945, one of two children of the late Coleman and Agnes (Keane) Canavan. Both of her parents died while Mary was just three years old. She was then raised by her aunt and uncle, Delia and Patrick Joseph “Grady” O’Grady, as a beloved member of the O’Grady family, in South Boston. She went on to graduate from Gate Of Heaven High School in So. Boston.
She began her career with New England Telephone, and stayed through the many mergers, break-ups and transformations, and eventually retired from Lucent Technology, as a National Account Service Manager.
She and her husband Bob, moved to Tewksbury in 1967, to raise their family
Mary Margaret was an active Communicant of St. William’s Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, and C.C.D. religious education teacher.
She and her husband enjoyed the great outdoors. She had also enjoyed many cruises in the Caribbean Sea and Bermuda, and had traveled throughout North America.
But her favorite activity was the time spent with her family, especially time spent watching her grandchildren playing sports.
Besides her husband, she leaves two children, Robert Coleman Hunt and his wife Debra (D’Amico) of Holliston, MA; Julie Marie Norwood of Tewksbury; six grandchildren, Christie, Sean, and Matthew Hunt, Nathan Norwood II, Jonathan, and Cassandra Norwood; her beloved sister, Mary (O’Grady) O’Neill of Weymouth; and a brother, Joseph Canavan and his wife Debra of So. Boston.
Visiting hours are Monday, Nov. 23, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Tuesday at 10:30 in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow in St, Mary Cemetery, No Tewksbury.
