Obituary

Mr. James A. Demers, 70, passed away on November 18, 2015. He was a lifelong resident of Andover and beloved son of Mildred C. (Reed) Demers-Waldie of New Portland, Maine and the late Leo A. Demers. James was born in Taunton, Massachusetts, on August 26, 1945.
Mr. Demers was a graduate of Andover High School, class of 1964, where he enjoyed playing football. He enlisted in the Army during Vietnam on July 27, 1964 and served with the Third Battalion, 12th Regiment, of the Fourth Infantry Division when he sustained severe wounds in the battle of Dak To. He was awarded a purple heart. He received his honorable discharge February 24, 1969. Mr. Demers was a Soldiers, Soldier, a true war hero- "I just want them to remember that I paid a terrible price in defense of my beloved country but that I remain, as always, a good soldier, and that I would gladly do it all over again." - Mr. Demers
In civilian life James worked as a custodian for the Town of Andover for many years. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter Amanda J. Demers, siblings; Robert F. and his wife Leslee Demers of Andover, Kenneth A. Demers of Derry, New Hampshire, Roger R. and his wife Patricia Demers of Sandown, New Hampshire, Ronald J. and his partner John J. Demers of New Portland, Maine, Donna M. and her husband Ronald C. Hajj of Andover and the late Leo M. Demers. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and dear friends; John Doherty, Lesley Carlson, Michael O'Neill and Kevin Lynch.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Christ Church, 33 Central Street, Andover on Monday, November 23, 2015, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Calling hours will be held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, on Sunday, November 22, 2015, from 4 to 8 PM.
