Obituary

Albert F. (Charlie) Hilton passed away peacefully in the Life Care Center of Auburn, Massachusetts on October 23, 2015. In his last days, Al was surrounded by his family and, being an avid Boston sports fan, was elated to enjoy a Bruins game before he passed.
The son of the late David Lewis Hilton and Edith Johnson Hilton was born in Providence, RI March 26, 1943. Albert lived in Barrington, RI in his early years and married his childhood sweetheart, the late Susan Jane Hilton. They resided in the Barrington area to start a family and in 1969 Albert moved his family to Franklin Massachusetts adjacent to some great neighbors, providing a very warm and happy home for his family next to Grici’s Pond, where the love for hockey began.
Albert had a successful 40 year career in the printing industry, as a sales executive, due to his gregarious personality; he loved to meet people and learn their story, especially those with great, dry sense of humor. Albert’s favorite client in his many decades of sales was Jackie Onassis, when his company printed her book. He relished about working with her. In his later years, if you gave him a moment, he would be sure to tell you all about it. Semi-retired, he worked at Virginia International Raceway in Alton, VA until full retirement in Auburn, MA.
Albert was an avid racing enthusiast beginning in the early 60s, which started with rally races on the open public road, to being part of a pit crew for a friend’s SCCA racing team, traveling from track to track through the race season, throughout New England and New York. He also attended many major racing events, and in his later years he checked off another item on the bucket list by driving at the Richard Petty Driving Experience in North Carolina.
Among other passions, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, scuba diving, vacationing in Newport, traveling in his motorhome, time at his timeshare in Cancun, and spending time at Lime Rock Park in CT. He volunteered for 15 fulfilling years with the Arthritis Foundation of New England, several years for the Liver Foundation, and at fundraising events for the Dana Farber Institute where he was proud of being awarded the “Volunteer of the Year” award at a ceremony in Boston.
Albert is survived by his son, Stephen Hilton, and wife, Nancy Allen-Hilton, of Vernon, CT and his daughter, Christine Hilton-Porter of Auburn, MA and his grandchildren, Emily Hilton, Olivia Hilton, Hannah Hilton, and Genevieve Porter. As well as his brother-in-law and dear friend, Walt Holm of Anchorage, Alaska. Albert is predeceased by his son-in-law, Norman S. Porter III and his sister, Avis Hilton.
The Hilton family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Albert’s CNA, Nancy Warner, during his years living in Auburn who not only is exceptional in her field, but an exceptional person and dear friend to the family. And thank you to the Symonick Family of Auburn and Shirley Atkins of Chatham, VA for making Albert laugh as well as helping his daughter with his care.
Interment will be held in Barrington, RI at a private family burial on November 21, 2015.
A celebration of life memoriam will be held at Lime Rock Park at a later date, because that is where Albert would want to celebrate.
