Obituary

Richard G. (Dick) Griffin, Sr. 92 years of Milton, MA died peacefully Sunday, October 25, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy T. (Callahan) Griffin with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. They were members of St. Agatha parish in Milton. Richard attended Boston School of Commerce. He was a WWII veteran having served in the Army Corps of Engineers Company B, 296th, in Europe. Longtime employee of First National Stores, Dick managed stores in East Milton and Wollaston and was director of their Loss Prevention department. After First National, he managed teams for Boston Market Cold Storage. For over 27 years he enjoyed a career at Milton Academy as a security officer where he helped many students and faculty and made many friends during his time there. Predeceased by his parents: George C. and Alice (Gomez) Griffin and siblings Catherine C. Griffin, Frances Sorgi, George (Bud) Griffin, Thomas F. Griffin. Dick shared many of his childhood memories of growing up in Dorchester with his parents, sisters and brothers whom he loved and cared for throughout their lives. Devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, Richard is survived by his children and their families: Richard Griffin, Jr. & his wife Ruth of Quincy, Barbara Blaney & her husband Paul of Braintree, Elizabeth Turner of Easton and Nancy Moschella & her husband Mark of Westborough. He was a loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral mass at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Friday morning at 11:00. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Avenue, MILTON, Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations in Richard’s name may be made to www.jimmyfund.org.
