Obituary


Daniel P. Hanlon, Sr., of Hooksett, NH, formerly of Lynn, beloved husband of Ruth C. (Powell) Hanlon died at home Nov. 15th. , surrounded by his family. Born in Cambridge, MA he was the son of the late John W. Hanlon & Lillian (Flynn) (Hanlon) Taylor. He was also the loving step son of Daniel & Mary (McCarthy) DeCourcey.
He was raised and educated in Lynn, attended Sacred Heart School and a 1951 graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School. He went on to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War, following his service he continued his studies and graduated from Boston University.
He was employed by the Raytheon Company of North Andover as a Production Planning Manager which was involved with the Hawk and Patriot defensive missile systems.
Over the years he enjoyed traveling with family and friends, helping neighbors with projects, and being the designated babysitter and dog watcher for the neighborhood. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather who will be deeply missed by all.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, Daniel is survived by his children Denise P. Johnson and her husband William of Andover, NH, John P. Hanlon and his wife Christina, Daniel P. Hanlon Jr. and his wife Marie all of Lynn. Loving grandfather of Cortney Johnson and her husband David of Marblehead, Sean Whalen and his wife Sabrina of Boscawen, NH, Patrick Whalen of Andover, NH, Susan Hanlon and her fiancé Seth Paquin of Exeter, NH, Christopher Hanlon and his wife April of Lynn, Nicole Hanlon and Rachel Hanlon of Lynn, 7 great grandchildren and two nieces Debra Flynn of FL, Rita Balfour of Londonderry, NH. , Dear brother of Ellen Studley of FL, and the late James Hanlon, Edward DeCourcy and Daniel J. “Donald” DeCourcy. He also leaves his lifelong friend Donald “Tyke” Kennedy of CA.
A service was held on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 in the chapel at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St, Manchester. Burial with military honors followed in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
