Simonne J. Mercier, 93, of New Bedford, died June 1, 2005 at New Bedford Health Care Center.
She was the widow of Lt. Col. Alonzo P. Mercier, USAF, with whom she shared over 56 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Zephir and Josephine (Richard) Bessette, she had lived in Fall River; Ohio; Paris, France; and Maryland, and was a long time resident of the New Bedford area for many years. She was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church in North Dartmouth.
Mrs. Mercier was a graduate of Holy Family High School in New Bedford in 1929, and was a Paralegal for many years.
She enjoyed ice skating, playing bridge and travel.
She is survived by her daughter, Doreen Mercier of New Bedford; a son, Richard Mercier, and his wife Mary Ann Mercier, PhD, of Vienna, Virginia; a sister, Leonne Roessle of New Bedford; and eight nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Raymond Bessette and Jeannette Pelletier.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, Saturday, June 4th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church, Dartmouth at 9 AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Visiting hours Friday, June 3rd from 4-7 PM.
