Dorothy Welsch, better known as Dottie, died peacefully on November 9. 2015 In Mystic at age 97, after dealing with the challenges of old age for the past few years. She dedicated her life to helping her son, Rich, who had muscular dystrophy. She worked as an Executive Secretary several places but she most enjoyed being a school secretary at Salem Drive School in Whippany, New Jersey. She worked there 35 years for 6 different principals, retiring at age 87 from the job she loved, and reluctantly moved away from many special friends she had known for years. StoneRidge Retirement Community in Mystic has been her home for the past ten years where she enjoyed card games, including bridge, the Woman's Club, day trips, movies, making new friends and being near family.
She was born June 20, 1918 in Chicago Illinois to Sam and Bertha Joseph and attended Manley High School. She married Arthur Welsch, her grammar school sweetheart, on August 10, 1941. They enjoyed many wonderful years together.
She is predeceased by her husband, Arthur in 1983 and her son, Richard in 2005. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Susan, 3 grandchildren Karen and her husband Jim Cartier, Bruce Rockwell, and Andy and his wife Kelly Rockwell, and 6 great grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at 10:00am at Restland Memorial Park, 77 DeForest Avenue, East Hanover, New Jersey. A reception will follow.
