Sarah Browning Doss, 88, of Tifton passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2015, in the Sanctuary of Tifton's First Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Roe officiating. Mrs. Doss will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 15, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Jason Donely, William Green, Jed Varnadoe, Van Fenn, Darrell Sammons and Franklin Brantley will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mary Youmans Sunday school class at Tifton’s First Baptist Church.
Born March 20, 1927 in Glenwood, Mrs. Doss was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Browning and Cliffola Morrison Browning. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Grady Doss, Sr.; and a sister, Mary Clifton “Tip” Taylor. She was retired and worked as a bookkeeper for Russell Daniel Irrigation and worked with her husband in his CPA firm, Howard Doss CPA as office manager. She taught the Primary Sunday class (5-year olds) at Tifton’s First Baptist Church for over 40 years and had also served as Sunday school superintendent.
Mrs. Doss is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Howard Grady Doss, Jr. of Tallahassee, Florida and Marion Glenn and Phyllis Doss of Lake Blackshear; two sisters, Jeanette Chambers of Lake Sinclair and Catherine Cravey of Milan; and two granddaughters and their husbands, Marlissa and Ian Cunningham of Douglasville and Claire and Jed Varnedoe of Tallahassee, Florida.
