Donald C. Ross of St. Paul passed away at the Ramsey County Care Center on Tuesday, November 10 with his loving wife & best friend of 55 years, Kathleen, by his side. Preceded in death by parents Frank & Martha (Drost); brothers Gerald & Frank Jr.; sons David Alan & Thomas Mark. Survived by wife Kathleen; daughter Carolyn (Jim Isaak) of Rochester, MN; son Dale (Keely) of Minnetonka; grandchildren Jacob & Grant (Isaak), Lydia (Ross); beloved pets Dani & Spins. Donald graduated from Johnson High School & attended the University of St. Thomas, serving in the Air Force ROTC program. He was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. An Airman 2nd Class, Donald served as a Reciprocating Jet Engine Technician & received a Medal of Good Conduct, Service Medal & Distinguished Service Award before his Honorable Discharge. Don played in the 3M Men's Golf League at Manitou for 40+ years. He was an avid golfer, gun collector, model builder, hockey player & violinist. He loved time at the shooting range with his sons & watching his daughter run track. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play hockey & interacting with his beautiful granddaughter. Sundays were reserved for the MN Vikings games. Playing hockey throughout his youth, Donald was on the championship Winter Carnival Team in 1955 & also the championship Bantam teams of '55 & '56. Don's speed carried him to many victories on the track. Don will be remembered for his great sense of humor, loyalty, service & unlimited love for his family. Visitation Thursday (TODAY) 5-7 PM at SANDBERG FUNERAL HOME, 2593 E. 7th Ave., North St. Paul. Graveside service Friday (11/13) 10:45 AM at FORT SNELLING NATIONAL CEMETERY, 7601 - 34th Ave. S, Mpls.
