Obituary

CHICOPEE – Leo E. Ouellette, Sr., 92, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, November 8, 2015. He passed into Eternal Life at his home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Salem, Massachusetts on August 17, 1923, a beloved son of the late Napoleon and Marie Laure (Leveille) Ouellette. He was raised in Salem and attended boarding school in Trois Rivieres, Province of Quebec, Canada. He studied to be a Catholic Priest and graduated from L’Ecole Saint Joseph in Trois Rivieres, P.Q., Canada where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1945. In 1953, he moved to Chicopee and settled in the Fairview section of the city where he lived for the remainder of his life. In 1954, he founded Leo Concrete Service, which later became Chicopee Concrete Service, which he was still actively involved in. He was a past president of the Serra Club, past president of the Richelieu Club and a Charter Member of Rotary International. During his leisure time, Leo was an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Orchards Country Club in South Hadley. He enjoyed cross-country skiing, was an avid boater and traveled to many places in the United States, Canada and the World. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee where he was a member of the Saint Anne Senior Choir. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his 13 dear brothers and sisters. He was also predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Lorraine G. (Gagnon) Ouellette who was Called Home on July 16, 2013. They were married on October 25, 1947 at Saint Joseph Church in Salem and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. He leaves his two loving children, Leo E. Ouellette, Jr. and his wife, Beverly Little-Ouellette, of Granby and Jeannine A. Kenney and her husband, Terence, of Granby; his four cherished grandchildren, Jason Ouellette and his wife, Carolyn, Karen Murphy and her husband, Darren, Chase Ouellette and Jennifer Bartosz and her husband, Lance; his eight cherished great-grandchildren, Margaret, Kaitlyn and Jack Ouellette, Kaylee, Devlin and Kamryn Murphy and Eva and Meredith Bartosz; his dear brother and sister-in-law, Andre Ouellette and his wife, Louise, of North Adams; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Ouellette and Gagnon families. His funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, November 11, 2015 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home.
