Obituary

Eleanor Marie (Gionta) Rogers of Kingston, formerly of Whitman, passed away suddenly at the age of 100, on the 6th of November, 2015 at Jordan's Hospital. She was the beloved wife of 67 years to the late Norman W. Rogers.

Eleanor was born in West Newton and spent most of her life living in Whitman. She was the daughter of Nicholas Gionta and Clalia (DeMilla) Gionta and a graduate of Whitman High School, class of 1932, and was the last remaining of her class.

She served her country in the Coast Guard and her community by being a Commander of the Disabled Veterans Association and retiring after 20 years of service to the city of Rockland. She also owned and operated the Rogers Variety Store on Pleasant Street in Whitman for 20 years until 1970. Eleanor enjoyed activities like playing the piano, cake decorating, modeling and line dancing.

Eleanor is survived by her children, Norman G. Rogers and his wife Valentyna, Kevin G. Rogers and his wife Sue, all of Whitman, Gerald E. Rogers of Dighton and Gail E. Simmons of Halifax, 9 Grandchildren, Heather, Alissa, Jessica Lee and her husband Pat, Kevin Jr., Timothy and his wife Pam, Alexandra and John Gunn, Jacob Simmons and his wife Sue, Nicholas Simmons, 8 great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicole and Noah, Benjamin and Zachary, Leanne, Brenna and Nolan Simmons.



Her services will be held on Tuesday November 10th at 6:30PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rt 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Visitation will be prior to the service from 4:00-6:30. Burial will be in the MA National Cemetery on November 16th at 11:30AM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans at DAV, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301
